Joint Venture Opportunities - Student Accommodation Projects
Auskor Australasia has extensive experience in providing specialist student accommodation management and project development consultancy services in Australia and across Asia. On occasion, Auskor Australasia are invited to tender for the development and ongoing management of large scale, purpose built student accommodation facilities. As Rachel Lebihan wrote in her Education article in The Australian Financial Review titled " Cash Strapped Uni's Offer Land For Digs " on Monday 22 October 2007, " Public-private partnerships where universities contribute land and developers finance the building and management of lodgings, are a favourable option for cash-strapped institutions that are being forced to improve the overall student experience to gain a competitive edge. The University of Western Australia's deputy vice chancellor, ( Education ), Don Markwell, encouraged more private investment in the Perth market. " We have the land but we don't have the spare capital to construct student accommodation, we don't have $30 million sitting around waiting simply for us to put in student accommodation," he said. " There is considerable potential in the Perth accommodation market for private providers to develop facilities that would be attractive for students and should be commercially rewarding for the companies themselves, but there is surprising little of that in Perth at the moment." The University of Sydney now caters for 900 students in its student village and another 1500 beds are available at the residential colleges with which it is affiliated. But with a full-time student population of 45,000, that's less than 1 per cent of students catered for. " We would like to see that 10 - 20 per cent of students are accommodated in nearby good, quality, safe affordable housing," the acting pro vice - chancellor of campus infrastructure and services, Richmond Jeremy, said. " If we achieve 20 per cent , we would like then to go beyond that." The university is in a planning phase, which could result in a further 700 to 2000 student beds. Professor Jeremy said at the higher end this meant a $200 million investment. " Auskor Australasia invites expressions of interest from local and offshore investment partners interested in establishing a partnership arrangement with Auskor Australasia to identify and bid for future large scale student accommodation development / management opportunities across Australia and into Asia.
